Hualalai Golf Course
Location: Kailua Kona, Big Island, Hawaii
Golf Course Architect: Nicklaus Design
Scope: Concept design, schematic design, design/documentation plus construction observation
Program: One 18 holf golf course.
Description: Assisting in the transformation of this ocean-side site from an existing lava flow on the island of Hawaii to golf resort was an important role for our designers. We worked with Jack Nicklaus Design on the landscape aspects of this project which include preservation of lava areas, recreation of lava areas and planting of native trees and ground covers throughout the course.
GCH planning staff played a key pivotal role in the careful integration of the course routings as they interacted with shoreline, alkaline ponds, historic trails, residential , hotel and arrival experience. Strategic placement of holes were analyzed to create ocean view corridors from upland residential parcels
