Description: Working closely with Golf Course Architect, Robin Nelson, the landscape on both of Kaanapali’s North and South golf courses was remodeled to bring two of the oldest resort courses in Hawaii up to current demands for aesthetics, strategy and maintenance. The existing landscape, adjacent to some of the finest hotels, residential developments and direct ocean property in Hawaii had become very busy over the years with too many species causing increased maintenance and lacking a clear theme. Landscape improvements included relocating many existing tree and palm species from various locations around the two golf courses to improve character and playability. Turf areas were replaced with shrub plantings or native grasses where possible to reduce irrigation and maintenance requirements. The LPGA has since begun using Kaanapali for their regular golf tournament. Additional design work at Kaanapali included an 18-hole themed putting course near Kaanapali Parkway.
