Shan Shui Golf & Country Club

Location: Tawau, Sabah, Malaysia

Golf Course Architect: Nelson & Haworth

Scope: Concept Design, Schematic Design, Design/Documentation plus Construction Observation

Program: One 18 hole golf course

Description: Golfscape staff worked closely with Nelson & Haworth on the landscape design for this magnificent 18-hole golf course. The golf course meanders through the existing undulating site and has an aptly named “Crocodile River” that runs through it. This gives the course a unique wildlife factor - there is a resident crocodile at hole-3, hornbills and Brahman kites fly above and long-tailed macaques are known to swing in the nearby trees. The site was home to a former rubber estate and coconut plantation. The site is also rich in flora and fauna, it winds through rubber tree areas, rare “Strangler Fig” trees, coconut groves, including protected “Honey Bear” trees, which stand more than 200 feet high. Breathtaking mountain views abound with its highest point providing views of the Suluwesi Sea and across Borneo.
